Tottenham defender Ben Davies won't definitely be fit for the north London derby, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

The £60,000 per-week star is nursing a knee problem, which forced him to miss both of Wales' Nations League games and has put him in a race against time to be available for Saturday's trip to Arsenal.

What's the latest news involving Davies?

According to The Athletic, the Welshman suffered a knee injury in the Champions League defeat to Sporting CP earlier this month.

Davies received treatment during the game in Lisbon but was still able to complete the 90 minutes.

Regardless, the injury kept the 29-year-old out of the victory over Leicester before the international break and then forced him to withdraw from Wales' matches with Belgium and Poland.

Conte provided a promising update ahead of the Leicester game, stating that it's not serious and expected Davies to be back once the Premier League returns next weekend.

But with the quick turnaround from the international fixtures, Barclay doesn't think there's any guarantees he'll be fit to face Arsenal.

What did Barclay say about Davies?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "The suggestion was that he was always going to miss the two Wales games but has a good chance of coming back for Arsenal.

"Rob Page spoke about his injury and said it's not serious, but I still think with the Arsenal game being so close there's no guarantee he'll be fit for the game, but fingers crossed because there is a good chance."

Who could start in Davies' absence?

With Davies starting near enough every game since Conte arrived, filling the left centre-back role hasn't been an area he has ever really had to consider.

But with Davies a doubt for Spurs' trip to their fiercest rivals, Conte will be weighing up potential replacements for the Wales star.

The most obvious is Clement Lenglet, who's the only other natural left-footed player at the back, and has started three of the last four matches.

A trip across north London in what will be a red-hot Emirates Stadium, represents a completely different test to what Lenglet has experienced in his first four outings in a Tottenham shirt.

But with plenty of big-game experience, including multiple El Clasicos and several big Champions League games, Conte shouldn't have too many reservations about throwing him in.
