Chelsea’s Lauren James has been compared to her brother Reece after an impressive performance against Manchester City in the Women’s Super League.

The Blues triumphed 2-0 after goals from Fran Kirby and Maren Mjelde.

It was a crucial victory for Chelsea, who suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on the opening weekend of the season.

Kirby and Mjelde may have been the names on the scoresheet, but it was James who really caught the eye of Chelsea fans.

Spearheading her team’s attack alongside Sam Kerr, the 20-year-old was a constant thorn in Manchester City’s side.

The ball seemed to stick to her feet as she glided away from defenders, earning her side a number of free-kicks after she drew in fouls.

James also had a number of efforts on goal, with one shot in particular just whistling past the post.

But don’t just take our word for it. Have a look at James’s performance in this compilation video of her best moments.

Comparisons with Reece James

Chelsea fans were quick to draw comparisons between Lauren James and her brother Reece, who also plays for the Blues.

Reece James has made nearly 90 appearances for Chelsea, winning the Champions League with the club in 2021.

The 22-year-old is currently considered one of the best right-backs in the world, and is battling with Trent Alexander-Arnold for a spot in England’s starting XI at the World Cup.

Who is Lauren James?

James has long been considered one of the hottest prospects in English women’s football.

She was scouted by Arsenal as a 13-year-old, making her senior team debut in 2017. James moved to Manchester United in 2018, joining the newly-formed squad to compete in the Women’s Championship.

While playing for the Red Devils, James scored a number of vital goals, including the first for Manchester United in the WSL and the first by a woman at Old Trafford.

Her performances attracted attention from Chelsea, and James signed a four-year contract with the club in 2021.

The young star hardly featured for the Blues during her first season, struggling with injury and kept out of the team by the likes of Kirby, Kerr and Pernille Harder.

But her minutes on the pitch have significantly increased this season, and James subsequently made her debut for England earlier this month.

It was reported that Lauren and Reece James became the first brother and sister to ever play for the England national team.
