Newcastle United will be doing "everything they can" to get Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson fit for the game against Fulham on Saturday, says Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

The Tyneside club have been without both Saint-Maximin and Wilson for their last few fixtures, failing to win without them.

What is the latest injury news involving Saint-Maximin and Wilson?

Saint-Maximin has been out with a hamstring problem and manager Eddie Howe recently revealed that the Frenchman had suffered a setback in his recovery.

"He’s had a very minor setback with the physios, so whether or not he’ll be fit after the international break is slightly unclear," the Newcastle boss was quoted as saying by The Northern Echo.

Wilson, likewise, has also been dealing with a hamstring injury but looks to be doing a bit better than his team-mate.

On the English striker, Howe said: "We hope that with a bit more time, there’s a chance that the next game could be good for him."

What has Downie said about Saint-Maximin, Wilson and Newcastle?

Ahead of their clash against Fulham at Craven Cottage, Downie says Newcastle desperately need Saint-Maximin and Wilson.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Sky Sports reporter said: "They badly need them. The club will be doing everything they can to get them back involved because it's glaringly obvious that they miss them. It's amazing that it's taken those two [recent] matches to see just how important they are to the team."

How good have Saint-Maximin and Wilson been for Newcastle since arriving at St James' Park?

Saint-Maximin's been brilliant. With his dangerous dribbling, the 25-year-old is a constant threat for the Magpies

Last season, no player in the Premier League managed to complete more dribbles than him, with the Newcastle star recording an impressive average of 4.3 per game (via WhoScored).

When fit, Wilson has also been effective. In total, he has scored 22 goals in 49 appearances for his current side.

With all of the above in mind, then, it is not hard to see why Howe's men struggled against the likes of Bournemouth and Crystal Palace in the absences of Saint-Maximin and Wilson.

Saint-Maximin and Wilson, who cost Newcastle around £40m combined, have indeed become such important players for the club.

With Fulham performing really well this season following their promotion back to the Premier League, Howe could really do with the duo for the upcoming clash against the sixth-placed side.
