Cody Rhodes has provided an update on his return to WWE TV after tearing his pectoral muscle this summer.

Days before Hell in a Cell on June 5, Cody tore his right pec completely off the bone, but still wrestled his scheduled match with Seth Rollins in heroic fashion.

We haven't seen Rhodes on WWE TV since June, but the former AEW wrestler has now provided a rather exciting update on his status.

Latest news on Cody Rhodes' return from injury

When it was clear that Cody's pec injury was serious, reports from the likes of Fightful and the Wrestling Observer suggested it was highly unlikely that he'd wrestle again in 2022.

As it became apparent that Cody wasn't going to wrestle again until 2023, fans immediately suggested that a return during next year's Royal Rumble match would be the perfect way to bring him back.

And now, while speaking to TMZ Sports, Cody has suggested that he's also angling to return at the Royal Rumble.

As you can see from the footage above, Cody says that he's read the comments from fans regarding when they want to see him return, with it being believed that he's speaking about the Royal Rumble.

Interestingly, Cody suggested that he's on the same page as the fans with regards to when he wants to return, again implying that he wants to be at the Rumble in January 2023.

It's worth noting that the former Intercontinental Champion did stress that doctors haven't given him a timeline for his return, but he's clearly hoping to be back for the big match in four months' time.

How did Cody Rhodes get injured?

Cody's injury didn't actually come in a match, with the WWE Superstar partially hearing his pec during a wild brawl with rival Seth Rollins during the May 30 episode of Monday Night Raw.

However, the injury was made significantly worse when, according to the Wrestling Observer, Cody completely tore his pec off the bone while weight training in the gym days before his match.

Reports from those sources indicated that Cody was only allowed to wrestle at Hell in a Cell because his injury was so bad, with it being thought that he couldn't do any more damage than he'd already done.

Cody turned up to his match with Rollins with his right pec completely bruised, which made for some of the most compelling visuals in wrestling history.

Rhodes' performance at Hell in a Cell was incredibly impressive, as acknowledged by Dave Meltzer, who awarded the match five stars, the first time he'd done that for a WWE main roster match since 2011.
