Aston Villa losing Lucas Digne, Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos all to injury is a huge blow, says journalist Dean Jones.

The Midlands club have had a difficult start to the season, and Jones says this is the last thing manager Steven Gerrard needs right now.

What is the latest injury news involving Digne, Kamara and Carlos?

Digne is the latest Villa player to pick up an injury. According to French outlet L'Equipe, while his ankle problem is not as bad as first feared, he is still expected to be out of action for a few weeks.

The above comes after Kamara did serious damage to his knee ligament in the Villans' 1-0 win against Southampton just before the international break.

Gerrard had already been without Carlos after he ruptured his Achilles tendon last month, so the 42-year-old will feel like he cannot catch a break right now.

Combined, Digne, Kamara and Carlos currently have a Transfermarkt valuation of £72m.

What has Jones said about Digne, Kamara, Carlos and Villa?

After Villa's slow start to the season, which has seen them take just seven points from as many games, Jones says their injury nightmare is not what Gerrard needs at this moment in time.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "Losing all three of them is hugely significant. I mean, Gerrard knows that this side are already on the uncomfortable side of tight margin games, and this isn't going to help them because they're such key players in what he's been working towards and hoping for for this season."

Who could come in for Digne and Kamara?

New signing Ludwig Augustinsson is one candidate to replace Digne for the game against Leeds United on Sunday. The 28-year-old arrived from Sevilla in July and is still waiting to make his debut for Villa.

Regarding who could come in for Kamara, another fresh face in Leander Dendoncker is one potential option for Gerrard. The Belgian is a natural fit for that defensive midfield role, while he can also play in central defence.

On the subject of central defence, Gerrard will have to continue picking from Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa and Calum Chambers following Carlos' injury. Jan Bednarek, of course, is a name that can be considered, too, after his arrival from Southampton.

Ultimately, looking at the above names, Gerrard still has some good footballers available for selection. However, losing Digne, Kamara and Carlos is undoubtedly a massive setback for the Villa boss, to say the least.
