Leeds United were ‘definitely scouting’ Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk during the international break, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 21-year-old is one of the most in-demand stars in European football at this moment in time and several Premier League sides are reportedly interested in securing his signature.

What is the latest news involving Mudryk?

90min claim that scouts from more than half of the Premier League were in Glasgow on Wednesday to watch Mudryk turn out for Ukraine against Scotland in their Nations League encounter.

Both Brentford and Everton failed with bids to sign the creative talent over the summer, with the duo having their €30million (£25.9m) offers rejected by Shakhtar.

And now they could be set to face extensive competition for Mudryk’s services after it was disclosed that members of the recruitment departments of Chelsea, Arsenal, Wolves, Leeds, Newcastle United and West Ham ran the rule over the attacker in midweek.

The i have since stated that Newcastle are prepared to launch a £50m bid for Mudryk despite previous reports suggesting his price tag was just £30m.

In January, the race to bring the ‘Ukrainian Neymar’ to the English top-flight is set to be one of the most fiercely contested battles, and Leeds will be hoping they can come out on top.

What has Jones said about Mudryk?

Shakhtar’s director of football Darijo Srna has recently informed CBS Sports that he believes Mudryk is only behind Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior in his relative position.

And Jones believes that he would be a ‘really exciting signing’ for Leeds who were watching him ‘closely’ during the pause in domestic football.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “This would be a really exciting signing for somebody like Leeds, they're definitely scouting him closely during the international break.”

How good is Mudryk?

Mudryk racked up two goals and seven assists in 11 Premier Liga games last term before Shakhtar’s campaign was abruptly cut short by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The immensely talented ace has picked up where he left off this time around, finding the back of the net twice in his opening five appearances across all competitions, setting up a further three strikes, leading to him being labelled "unreal".

But it’s Mudryk’s performances in the Champions League that have really caught the eye, with his four goal contributions against RB Leipzig and Celtic helping Shakhtar claim four points from a possible six.

Whether Leeds have the financial resources and pulling power to attract Mudryk to Elland Road is up for debate, but he’s surely someone who Victor Orta and Jesse Marsch will be monitoring.
