The Miz is one of WWE’s most important superstars due to his reliability, injury free record and ability to fit into any role the company give him, whether its in the ring or on a reality TV series.

Upon arrival in WWE, The Miz was not viewed as someone with a serious future in the industry, given his past on MTV reality show “The Real World.”

He eventually overcame many doubters and hurdles to become a two-time WWE Champion and an eight-time Intercontinental Title holder, as well as a WrestleMania main eventer.

He was a sports star in high school

Mike Mizanin attended Normandy High School in his hometown of Parma, Ohio. Here, he competed in numerous sports, most notably being the captain of both basketball and cross county school teams.

He appeared on WWE Tough Enough in three separate roles

His first appearance on WWE television came on the fourth season of Tough Enough in 2004, which kickstarted his career. He later was a coach on the show in 2011 and then a host and judge in 2015.

He was the host of the 2006 WWE Diva Search

His first exposure to the main roster came as a result of the WWE Diva Search in 2006. Due to his reality tv show experience and strong promo skills, he was selected to host the show alongside Ashley Massaro, the previous year’s winner.

He met his wife on the show

The Miz and Maryse are one of WWE’s most iconic couples, having been heavily featured on Smackdown, Raw and a whole host of WWE reality shows. They first met on the aforementioned Diva Search.

He was voted No.1 wrestler in 2011

The Miz’s unexpected but well-earned rise to the top of WWE came when he cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Randy Orton to win the WWE title in November 2010. He headlined WrestleMania the following year, and as a result placed in first place on Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s Top 500 for 2011.

He was Daniel Bryan’s pro in NXT

In 2010, The Miz was selected to be Daniel Bryan’s storyline pro on NXT. This was despite Bryan being one of the best wrestlers in the world, and someone who had been in the industry longer than The Miz. It might have been somewhat comical but it led to great eventual feuds between the pair.

He is the only two-time Grand Slam Champion

The Miz’s lasting relevancy and continued improvement through the years has seen him amass every single title in WWE available to him. Twice over. When he won the WWE title in February 2021, he became WWE’s first and only two-time Grand Slam Champion.

He appeared on the 2021 season of Dancing with the Stars

The Miz has been involved in television and film before and during his WWE career, appearing last year on the 30th season of Dancing with the Stars. He and his partner Witney Carson were the 7th pairing to be eliminated.

He won the first ever WWE Mixed Match Challenge

For two years from 2018-19, WWE hosted a series called Mixed Match Challenge. In the first season, The Miz and Asuka emerged victorious and donated their $100,000 prize money to the Rescue Dogs Rock Charity.

He was spotted on a recent Netflix series

Recently, The Miz made an uncredited appearance on Netflix’s Woodstock ’99 series. He recently confirmed he was the man screaming “Woodstock ’99 baby, yeah!” into the camera, and was there to see Limp Bizkit play.
