Anderson Silva has revealed a rough timeline for when he plans to retire from fighting.

Throughout the course of his long tenure in the fight game, and specifically mixed martial arts, Anderson Silva has been viewed as one of the greatest of all time.

‘The Spider’ carved out a legacy for himself in the Ultimate Fighting Championship that very few could ever dream of. The veteran holds the record for most consecutive UFC wins, he held the middleweight title longer than anyone else, and his prime saw him tear through some of the biggest names in the sport - and that’s not an exaggeration.

So, then, at the age of 47, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that he’s still turning back the clock, but this time, he’s doing so in the world of professional boxing.

There’s been a long-running conversation regarding his future and how much longer he can keep going but based on recent evidence, you’d have to say that he looks as sharp as he has done in a long time.

During an interview with Ariel Helwani, Silva laid out a plan for when he aims to walk away from fighting once and for all.

“When I’m done, I’m done,” he said. “I just close the door, this is part of my past, thank you, and I’m out. But right now, I’m good. I’m continuing doing something very good, doing sparring with good kids, professional fighters, Olympic champions.”

“The guys have helped me a lot and I’m continuing doing something at the same level as the kids… I don’t know [if I’ll fight at 50]. I think I’ll do fighting with my grandchildren in the home… I think my last fight will be at 49. 49 is the number.”

The big test

Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren both tried and failed, and now, it’s Anderson Silva’s time to get a crack at YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

‘The Problem Child’ is 5-0 since turning pro and with every passing fight, he just keeps on surprising people in the most remarkable of ways.

In his next challenge, he’ll lock horns with Anderson Silva on October 29 in what serves as a monumental step up in competition.

Some have suggested that Silva has nothing to lose given his age, but if he can pull off a spectacular win, it’ll cement his latest run as one of the best combat sports resurgences in recent memory.
