Tottenham star Djed Spence is not far away from getting a chance under Antonio Conte, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The youngster has made just the solitary appearance since his move from Middlesbrough, but O'Rourke reckons his game-time could increase in the coming weeks.

What's the latest news involving Spence?

Following a summer of uncertainty, Spence finally secured his move to the Premier League when Spurs forked out £20m for his services.

Despite already having two right wing-backs at their disposal, the north Londoners still opted to bring in Spence, who showed his potential during a fruitful loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season.

Spence made 50 appearances in all competitions, notably impressing against the likes of Arsenal, Leicester and Liverpool in the FA Cup.

But his only outing so far since joining Tottenham came as a late substitute against Forest, with the England Under-21 man often left out of matchday squads.

O'Rourke reckons that could soon change, though, once he adapts to Conte's demands.

What did O'Rourke say about Spence?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I don't think his chance is too far away.

"I think Antonio Conte is working him hard in training and wants his new signings to be tactically aware of what he wants from them, so he's maybe waiting for Spence to get up to speed and once that comes then hopefully he will get a role in the Spurs starting line-up."

When could Spence get his chance?

Tottenham play 13 matches before the World Cup brings the season to a pause, starting with Saturday's north London derby, so if Spence is going to get an opportunity, you'd imagine it'll be in the next month or so.

On the down side, he's competing against Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal for just one spot at right wing-back.

However, with Royal failing to adapt to the wing-back role and Doherty still not up to scratch yet since returning from injury, it could open the door for Spence to get some minutes.

But when Royal was finally dropped from the side for the victory over Leicester before the break, Spence wasn't even included in the squad, with Conte instead opting to switch Ivan Perisic over to the right.

That alone highlighted how far down the pecking order Spence currently finds himself, but that could soon change with games coming thick and fast.
