Triple H once got so angry that he changed the finish of a WWE tournament match while it was happening.

While running NXT at the time, Triple H was given the responsibility of booking the Mae Young Classic, WWE's female-only tournament featuring wrestlers from across the world.

Despite the tournament taking place over five years ago, more stories are starting to come out with regard to how HHH handled things.

Triple H's booking of the Mae Young Classic

In the first round of the tournament in 2017, Rachel Ellering beat Marti Belle, but that wasn't the original plan.

On a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained that Triple H had originally booked Belle to win the match, via WrestleTalk.

Paul Levesque (Triple H)… there was a women’s tournament, and it was Marti Belle and Rachael Ellering – Rachael Ellering was gonna lose, and in the middle of the match he just switched it. He didn’t like Marti Belle and how she was working.

As you can see from Meltzer's quote below, Triple H reportedly got so angry with how Belle was working during the match that he decided to change the result and have Ellering win.

The conversation was brought up as a result of what happened at All Out, with Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland beating The Acclaimed to retain the AEW World Tag Team Championship.

Anthony Bowens and Max Caster got two of the best reactions on the show, with many fans feeling as if Tony Khan should have changed direction on the fly and had The Acclaimed win the titles.

Meltzer used the example of Triple H in the Mae Young Classic to prove that, although for different reasons, there is precedence for the winner of a bout being changed mid-match.

What is Triple H doing in WWE now?

Following Vince McMahon's retirement in July, Triple H was appointed as WWE's Head of Creative, a decision that fans have been calling to happen for years.

HHH overcame serious health issues to return to WWE earlier this year, revealing that he was close to tragically dying due to a serious heart problem last summer.

Thankfully he was able to make a full recovery, and while we'll never see 'The Game' wrestle again, as he retired in April 2022, he arguably has a bigger influence on WWE now than ever before.

Fans have been, on the whole, quite happy with the changes that Triple H made to the product since assuming the creative responsibilities vacated by Vince McMahon.

The quality of Raw and SmackDown shows under HHH is seen to have been a lot higher than they were under his father-in-law.
