Alex Albon is going to be back racing this weekend at the Singapore Grand Prix, less than three weeks after having appendix surgery.

The Thai/British driver woke up feeling unwell on Saturday morning at the Italian Grand Prix and was quickly diagnosed with appendicitis, with him going to hospital for the necessary surgery.

Nyck de Vries would stand in for him for the rest of the weekend at Monza, meanwhile, and did a fantastic job, scoring points on his F1 debut.

Albon, meanwhile, suffered complications after the surgery with respiratory failure requiring him to spend a short period on an intensive care ward, though he quickly recovered and improved to be able to go back home on the Tuesday after the Italian Grand Prix.

From that point, he made it clear that he was going to be working hard to try and be fit and ready to drive at the Singapore Grand Prix this weekend, as he undertook an intense period of training to get his body ready not just for the usual rigours of driving an F1 car but also for the extra challenge of the humidity and length of race that is thrown up by this weekend's event.

Indeed, all the drivers have been working hard in the build-up to this one, and that's without having surgery just over a fortnight ago, so it's clear that Albon is pushing himself hard this weekend.

He has been declared fit by the FIA for this one, though, with him sharing the sort of stuff he was getting up to on Twitter during his recovery period, including lots of gym work and a spell in a freezing cold Cryo Chamber:

F1 drivers put themselves through the mill in the pursuit of optimal performance and Albon has clearly put the hours in to make sure he is ready to go for this weekend's action.

He and the other 19 drivers are supreme athletes but will still feel some effects of the humidity this weekend, given how challenging the race is in Singapore.
