Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr has revealed the "only thing" he hates about Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

Canelo Alvarez cemented his legacy as one of the greatest fighters of his generation after beating Gennady Golovkin in a rather one-sided contest in Las Vegas.

The Mexican superstar set the pace at the start of the fight and landed the more eye-catching shots throughout to complete his trilogy with the Kazakh legend.

Yet Jones has picked holes in Canelo's technique as he admitted that he isn't a fan of the way he throws the left hook.

"One of my pet peeves in training is I hate a fighter that slaps," he said during an appearance on The Porter Way Podcast. "You slap, you're going to get out of my gym, because I'm not going to put up with you because one of those slaps could have been a punch that could have got him out of there but it didn't.

"I saw on Instagram last night it showed Canelo land a good straight right hand with his shoulder turned perfect like it's supposed to be then a hook landing with his left hand on Triple G's face.

"Who is that going to knock out? So when they said he was going to knock him out I said no way.

"I always tell my fighters, I love Canelo, I think he's a great fighter. The only thing I don't like about him he tends to slap a lot of the time with the left hook."

Jones also says that Canelo would have struggled against him had the two ever fought in their prime.

"They always talk about he would have done good against Roy Jones," he added. "No he wouldn't - he slaps too much.

"They say he would have did good with Roy Jones back in the day. I say no he wouldn't.

"I love him. I think he's a great fighter. But my only issue is that he hits with this [pointing at the middle segments of his fingers] a little too much.

"You're not going to beat me hitting with this. In my prime no, that's not going to happen. So I knew he wasn't going to stop Triple G because too much of this. If he hits with these all the time [pointing at his knuckles] he could have got him out of there."
