F1: Oscar Piastri eager to learn from Lando Norris

Oscar Piastri has said he’ll be looking to learn from Lando Norris during his debut year in Formula 1 next season.

Piastri will be driving for McLaren in 2023 with him set to replace Daniel Ricciardo, after a much-publicised and drawn-out tug-of-war between the Woking-based team and Alpine.

That’s all done and dusted now, though, and Piastri can start focusing on the future, with him getting his first shot in F1 next year after impressing in Formula 2 and winning the title in 2021.

The young Aussie forms an exciting-looking driver partnership with Lando Norris for 2023, then, and McLaren will hope they can spur one another on to bigger and better things within the team.

Speaking to the In The Fast Lane podcast, meanwhile, Piastri revealed that Norris and he have already exchanged a couple of brief conversations and that he is looking forward to competing with, but also learning from, the Briton:

“I’ve spoken to him a couple of times briefly, and we’ve a few mutual friends in common, so I’m looking forward to getting to know him both personally and professionally.

“Our junior careers are quite similar, and he’s obviously proven in F1 as well that he’s a very capable driver, and a strong driver as well.

“So I’m looking forward to being able to show what I have but undoubtedly there are going to be things to learn along the way, and Lando is a very strong team-mate to be able to learn from.

I’m looking forward to it, and I think it will be a good working relationship. I hope it will.

“We’re both quite similar in age, a few friends in common, as I said, so I’m confident we’ll be able to work well together and hopefully bring the whole team more towards the front of the grid because that’s the aim.”

It’s going to be fascinating watching these two work together.

Both hugely impressed in their junior category years and Lando has gone on to be a real shining light since breaking into F1.

Oscar knows he has quite the challenge ahead of him in terms of trying to take on and beat Norris, but he will believe in himself and his abilities to do exactly that.
