Lauren James has been in fine form for Chelsea this season and her brother Reece [James] was in attendance at Kingsmeadow on Thursday as she produced another great performance against West Ham.

James signed for Chelsea from Man United last season but found her playing time limited because of injuries.

This season, however, the 20-year-old has hit the ground running and now looks to be a key part of Emma Hayes’ plans moving forwards.

The English youngster shone against Manchester City last week and a video of her highlights even went viral on social media.

While James didn’t start for the Blues against the Hammers, she was mightily impressive once again –– showcasing her pace and power on a number of occasions.

Reece, who also plays for Chelsea, was spotted watching his younger sister in the stands and he will no doubt be proud of what he witnessed.

Though James was brilliant for much of her cameo, she did have one moment to forget in the 77th minute.

After winning a penalty, James stepped up to take the spot-kick but saw her effort saved by Mackenzie Arnold.

What did Emma Hayes say?

In the end, Chelsea came from behind to seal a deserved 3-1 win, thanks to goals from Fran Kirby, Sam Kerr and Millie Bright.

After the game, Hayes praised her side for their reaction after going a goal down and described the performance as “dominant” in the end.

“It was a great reaction to going down,” she said. "I thought we needed the rest of the half to break them down and the goal came at the right time, before half-time. In the second half we moved it well, we were dominant in the end.

“We hit the post twice, missed a penalty, I felt the scoreline should have been a little bit bigger but for me this is so early on in the season I just want to see the things we are working on and I felt that was the case.

“They’re such a nice dressing room, they really are. They’re great leaders and people and it’s so easy to go and coach in these situations for me because we can make little changes, they adapt really well and I think they’re growing in confidence. I felt that by the end this was a game we really needed.”

Will Lauren James play for England?

James made her senior England debut earlier this month –– coming on as a 79th-minute substitute during England’s 2023 World Cup qualification match against Austria.

The Chelsea forward has been called up for Sarina Wiegman’s latest squad as well and will be eyeing her first start against world champions the USA next month.

England will face the USA in front of a sold-out Wembley, on Friday, October 7th.
