Rangers star Ryan Jack is keen to earn a new contract as he is 'hoping to stay' at Ibrox beyond the end of the season, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Gers are two points adrift of arch-rivals Celtic, who are at the Scottish Premiership's summit, and there is uncertainty over whether a number of their stars have a long-term future on the club's books.

What's the latest news involving Jack?

Jack is among the big names whose Rangers contract is nearing its expiry date as his £12,000-per-week deal is due to run out next summer.

According to The Scottish Sun, it is unlikely that the central midfielder is keen to move onto pastures new and he may even be prepared to see out the remainder of his career in Glasgow.

However, the report suggests Jack - who has made nine appearances since the campaign got underway - may be tempted into penning a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club if the right offer comes along at the turn of the year.

The 30-year-old won his 13th Scotland cap during the international break and played a key role in Steve Clarke's side winning Nations League promotion thanks to their goalless draw with Ukraine.

Jordan Campbell, a journalist at The Athletic, hailed Jack's performance and claimed he is 'looking a lot sharper than he did at the start of the season'.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Jack?

O'Rourke is certain that Jack is eager to remain at Rangers and not head out of the Ibrox exit door.

The journalist believes there is a distinct possibility that the former Aberdeen man will sign on the dotted line if fresh terms are put on the table.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "I'm sure Ryan Jack will be hoping to stay at Rangers.

"If both parties can agree, I'm sure something can be resolved here."

Should Jack be offered a new contract by Rangers?

Jack has made 161 appearances - and racked up 24 goal contributions - since joining Rangers, which underlines the fact he has been a key cog in the heart of the midfield.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is clearly a fan of the Scotsman as well, having handed him 29 appearances following his appointment as the Gers' boss last November.

However, the fact Jack has missed 110 games through various injuries during his stint with Rangers will be a concern and is likely to be a key reason for the club holding off heading to the negotiating table.
