Aston Villa supporters 'would love' Mauricio Pochettino to succeed Steven Gerrard in the Villa Park dugout, according to journalist Dean Jones.
While Gerrard is approaching a year in the hot seat, it appears there are doubts over his long-term future with the Midlands giants.

What's the latest news involving Pochettino?
According to Football Insider, Pochettino is keen on the possibility of sealing his return to the Premier League by replacing Gerrard at the Villa helm.
The report suggests the former Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur chief, who was spotted watching England’s Nations League draw with Germany from the Wembley stands earlier this week, is not only interested in managing a club in the Champions League.
The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, speaking on the Overlap Review, revealed Pochettino would not discount a move to Villa Park and it is understood that he is on a list of targets compiled by the Villa hierarchy in case they decide to sack Gerrard.
The 50-year-old was axed by French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the summer and turned down the opportunity to return to Ligue 1 after snubbing an approach made by Nice earlier this month.
Pochettino was reportedly under consideration to take over at Chelsea after the capital club sacked Thomas Tuchel, but Graham Potter was appointed as the German's successor instead.
What has Dean Jones said about Pochettino?
Jones believes the Villa fanbase would welcome Pochettino replacing Gerrard in the hot seat as it would show the ambition of the hierarchy.
However, the journalist feels some supporters are doubtful over whether the Argentinian would be open to taking charge of a side which is only three points clear of the Premier League's relegation zone.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "I think Villa fans would love an appointment on the level of Pochettino.
"But it's going to be interesting how his current situation drags out. I'm sure there are fans out there that are very sceptical of these links."
Would Pochettino be an upgrade on Gerrard?
Pochettino has won 292 of his 598 matches in management, giving him a win ratio of close to 49 per cent.
That is a far better record than Gerrard boasts at Villa, having led the Premier League side to more defeats than victories.
Pochettino may have been sacked by PSG a matter of months ago, having failed to clinch the Champions League, but he still won three trophies - including the Ligue 1 title - during his time at the Parc des Princes and it is clear that he would be an exciting appointment.
