We all love an occasional Greggs, right?

As the days and nights close in once more, those seeking a warming addition to their lunchtime snack or even just to obey their inner glutton will be queuing up and down the land to satisfy their hunger.

With the Premier League returning this weekend also with two delicious derby clashes, what better way to enjoy a game on the TV than with a choice selection of baked goodness from the popular high street food outlet?

Handily, Greggs have now combined the two in a rather tasty comparison of footballers and their relative foods from the menu.

Some of their comparisons are mouth-watering.

Posting on Twitter on Friday morning, Greggs unveiled a gallery of top-flight talent both young and old, but just who and what were on said menu?

Premier League footballers as Greggs food items

First up, the talk of the town, nay, the footballing world, Erling Haaland carried more than a passing resemblance to the award-winning British staple; The Sausage Roll.

Commenting frankly and no less accurately, Greggs tweeted: “Inevitable. Unsurpassed. Makes you feel bad for the rest. Never misses.” Few could argue with such sentiment.

Other names given the treatment included Tottenham‘s “dependable” and “underrated” Ben Davies as a Cheese & Onion Bake, Liverpool stopper Alisson billed as a Breakfast Sausage Roll, with Arsenal‘s Bukayo Saka compared to Sausage, Bean & Cheese Melt.

“A bit of everything in one perfect package. Loved by everyone,” Greggs quip. Indeed.

Greggs troll Man United’s Bruno Fernandes

Perhaps the most amusing take, however, would be that of Manchester United‘s enigmatic Bruno Fernandes.

Since his electric start to life upon arriving in Manchester during January 2021, the Portuguese has rather blended into the scenery at Old Trafford of late, perhaps down in no small part to the return of his more illustrious compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo.

So far this season, the former Sporting Clube de Portugal playmaker has again been rather conspicuous by his absence under Erik ten Hag.

Accordingly, Greggs have pulled no punches and his footballing resemblance to the Festive Bake is not without merit.

We’ll start easy…

Appearing solely over the Christmas period and laced with all the trimmings of the big day, the baked special hits the mark but only for a short period before its moment in the spotlight vanishes until the following year.

Finishing rather bluntly, Greggs state simply: “Sensational for a few weeks then disappears.”

On current from, that would be hard to dispute.
