Nyck de Vries has reportedly agreed to join AlphaTauri for the 2023 campaign, which will clear the way for Pierre Gasly to join Alpine.

This is according to Canal+, at least, who claim that the Dutchman has agreed to join the Faenza-based team for 2023 to partner Yuki Tsunoda, with the Japanese driver signing a contract for next season earlier this month.

Gasly has also signed a deal for 2023 with AlphaTauri this season, of course, but once it became clear that Alpine were looking for a new driver after Fernando Alonso revealed he would be joining Aston Martin, Gasly's future suddenly was called into question.

Is the 2023 driver line-up nearing completion?

Indeed, the Frenchman quickly emerged as a potential target for Alpine as the French/British team look to add to Esteban Ocon in their line-up for next year, though it was not clear just how the driver market would fall into place.

Nyck de Vries, in fact, was linked with a move to Alpine himself, and Williams for that matter, with him producing a fine performance for the Grove team last time out at the Italian GP as he stood in for Alex Albon, who had appendicitis.

Indeed, that sparked further speculation that De Vries might even go to Williams, but it now looks as though two of the biggest questions around the driver line-up for 2023 are going to be answered, at least according to Canal+.

If these moves happen, we'd then just have two drives available for next year, at Haas and Williams, with Mick Schumacher currently without a contract at the former and Nicholas Latifi leaving the latter at the end of this season.

Some have suggested Mick could go to Williams, meanwhile, with Nico Hulkenberg going into Haas, whilst Daniel Ricciardo leaves the grid and potentially takes up a reserve role for 2023.

We won't be holding our breath, but perhaps the 2023 driver line-up jigsaw is starting to move towards completion.
