Novak Djokovic and Iga ÅšwiÄ…tek will headline the first edition of the World Tennis League.

The brand new exhibition event, set to be held at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai from December 19th to 24th, has announced an impressive field of tennis stars.

Djokovic and ÅšwiÄ…tek will be joined by Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, world number 20 Nick Kyrgios and two-time Grand Slam winner Simona Halep.

What is the World Tennis League?

Sixteen of the world’s most talented tennis players will compete in singles and mixed doubles matches, which will only be two sets.

If a final outcome is needed, a 10-point tie-breaker will be used to decide the winner.

The line-up will be split into four teams of four players in a lottery on November 1st, with the tournament set to be held in a round robin format.

The top two teams will then face off in a final day of matches to determine the overall winner of the World Tennis League.

Ticket holders will also have the chance to stay for concerts from top music artists once the tennis is over.

Dutch DJ superstars Tiësto and Armin Van Buuren are among those set to play at "The Greatest Show on Court".

Iga ÅšwiÄ…tek "excited" to play at World Tennis League

ÅšwiÄ…tek, the reigning French Open and US Open champion, spoke about her excitement for the World Tennis League.

“I like it most when tennis connects people and when it's true entertainment,” she said. “When it's combined with a great show and music, it's even better, so that's the reason why I'm excited to join this year's World Tennis League.

“I'm happy that together with other top players we'll introduce tennis as fun to new audiences. I can't wait!”

ÅšwiÄ…tek is the current world number one after a remarkable season. She won her second French Open title in June, part of an impressive 37-match winning streak which saw her claim six successive WTA Tour titles.

The Polish star’s form dipped slightly after she crashed out at Wimbledon in the third round, but she managed to find her feet again at Flushing Meadows, winning the US Open for the first time.

Świątek certainly isn’t taking her foot off the pedal – she will compete at the WTA Finals from October 31st to November 7th, and may even compete at the Billie Jean King Cup from November 8th to 13th.
