It was a moment of class from the boxing legend and it was a tough night overall for the Mexican but he had a great career nonetheless.

After the fight, Marquez said: “The weight was an advantage but Floyd’s a great fighter.

“He’s very fast and a very good counter puncher. I came to fight 12 hard rounds and a lot of people thought I was going to get knocked out.

“But I wasn’t and I hope I made Mexico proud.”

Floyd Mayweather's life post retirement

In recent times, Mayweather has taken part in a number of exhibition bouts against fighters such as Logan Paul and kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa.

He is next scheduled to face YouTuber Deji Olatunji, who is the younger brother of internet personality and rapper KSI.

The bout will take place at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on 13 November, with Olatunji facing an uphill battle to get any kind of success against the American.Â
