Kenya’s Amos Kipruto won the men’s London Marathon today after running the circuit in a time of two hours, four minutes and 39 seconds. As always, a marathon is the ultimate test of endurance, speed and determination to power through the pain barrier.Understandably, despite trying to complete the race in the quickest time possible, the athletes don’t run at full pelt or they wouldn’t make it through the full course.

London Marathon 2022

The London Marathon saw the usual drama and entertaining moments, with anyone able to test themselves around the 26.2 mile course, with over 42,000 people taking part in this year’s edition.

Footage has been circulated on social media, with one runner really taking matters into his own hands to make headlines by getting some bragging rights over his friends and family.

He decided to blitz through the field at the start, going against the grain of aiming to preserve energy for the endurance test, and in fact putting his all into the opening.

What happened at the 2022 London Marathon?

The competitor who blitzed away at the start obviously caught everyone’s attention with the commentary team on the BBC picking up on the moment, saying: “The grand spectacle of thousands coming together in the pursuit of a common goal. Or the ones who look for a little bit of individual glory, like that man at the front there.”

Three-time winner of the event, Paula Radcliffe was on commentary too, adding her thoughts to the chaos: “That guy is going to be paying for it.”

It was a great moment, as the runner just hilariously legged it to open up the race, giving us all some serious entertainment across the long race.

Mo Farah London Marathon

Mo Farah was due to be competing in the event, with one of Britain’s greatest ever Olympians showing his class to a home crowd across the 26-mile run through the capital.

However, unfortunately, he had to pull out of the race earlier in the week after suffering an injury that prevented him from competing.

He’ll be hoping to follow in the footsteps of reality TV star, Mark Wright, who himself had to pull out last year due to an injury, but he was part of the small section of famous people taking part in the race this year, adding some star power for the non-running fans who tuned in for the spectacle of the London Marathon.
