Manchester United are ‘looking at’ bringing in a new striker over the next couple of transfer windows, according to Sky Sports reporter Dhamresh Sheth.

The Red Devils were linked with several targets of the summer before opting to prioritise other positions as manager Erik ten Hag looked to mould the first-team squad in his image.

What is the latest news involving Man Utd?

United have endured an indifferent start to life under Ten Hag, suffering humiliating defeats to Brighton, Brentford and local rivals Manchester City in his opening weeks at the helm.

However, victories over the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Leicester City have shown the potential that they have under the Dutch tactician if the club’s hierarchy continue to back him in the transfer market.

In the previous window, United spent around £215 million improving the players at Ten Hag’s disposal, yet they failed to bring in a new striker.

That was despite the experienced Edinson Cavani exiting Old Trafford on a free transfer and Cristiano Ronaldo informing the club’s chiefs that he wished to depart in search of a Champions League club.

Ronaldo ultimately stayed put after a suitable buyer failed to come forward, but with his current contract due to expire in under 12 months, a replacement will surely need to be brought in next summer.

What has Sheth said about Man Utd?

Sheth believes that signing a ‘long-term target’ in January will be a ‘very, very difficult’ task for the United recruitment team and predicts they will be focussing their attention on the following window.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “Make no mistake about it, I think that is an area that United are looking at.

“Whether they can get someone who's a long-term target in in January, it will be very, very difficult. They'll probably be focusing more on next summer.”

Who could Man Utd sign?

A recent report from The Sun stated that United are contemplating a £25 million offer for Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos in January despite the fact he has a £100m release clause written into his contract.

Ten Hag’s charges are far from the youngster’s only admirers, though, with Newcastle United and Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich also listed amongst his potential suitors.

Ramos registered eight goals and four assists in 46 appearances across all competitions with around half of his outings coming off the substitute’s bench.

The 21-year-old has elevated his game to new heights this time around, racking up eight goals and six assists in just 12 outings, highlighting why he is believed to be on United’s radar.
