Southampton star James Ward-Prowse has not agitated for a move away from St Mary's as he 'doesn't want to upset the vision of the club', according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Having only notched two wins from their opening eight fixtures of the Premier League season, Saints are just one point clear of the relegation zone.

What's the latest news involving Ward-Prowse?

Although Southampton are struggling at the wrong end of the table, Ward-Prowse has made an encouraging start to the campaign and is the club's second best performer having averaged a match rating of 6.99.

The central midfielder has failed to miss a single minute of the Premier League season and scored in the opening day defeat at Tottenham Hotspur, but there are doubts over whether he will be included in the England squad which travels to Qatar for the World Cup next month.

That is because Ward-Prowse was dropped from the matchday squad as the Three Lions went head-to-head with Germany in a Nations League clash at Wembley last week.

As a result, the Southampton captain was deprived of the opportunity to add to his 11 caps during the international break.

However, Ward-Prowse has revealed the pain of not being included in England's squad for Euro 2020 has motivated him to make sure he is not left in a similar position ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

What has Dean Jones said about Ward-Prowse?

Jones believes Ward-Prowse is not eager to leave Southampton as he looks to improve his chances of being given more opportunities with England.

The journalist feels the academy graduate understands his importance to Ralph Hasenhuttl's side, but frustrating results could force him into a rethink over his future.

When asked whether Ward-Prowse is seeking a move away from Southampton, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "It's a difficult one because he's been so loyal up to this point.

"He doesn't want to upset the vision of the club because he's been so integral to it, but one thing we have seen is that Southampton are consistently inconsistent."

Should Southampton fans be fearing a Ward-Prowse exit?

West Ham United were among Ward-Prowse's suitors during the summer transfer window, but a move away from the south coast failed to come to fruition.

Southampton also rejected a £25million bid from Aston Villa last year, so his current employers have shown they will not give up his services without a fight.

The 27-year-old still has just shy of four years remaining on his £100,000-per-week contract, so Saints are in a strong negotiating position and will not be under any pressure to sanction his departure when the transfer window reopens in January.
