Manchester City once again underlined their title credentials over the weekend as they thrashed fierce derby rivals, Manchester United.

Erling Haaland was at his merciless best as he helped himself to yet another Premier League hat-trick on a riotous afternoon at the Etihad.

Phil Foden also enjoyed quite the merry outing, bagging a hat-trick of his own to ensure Haaland didn't completely monopolise the headlines on Monday morning.

Manchester City's incredible first-half performance

It was a first-half performance for the ages as City flooded forward, rattling four past a shellshocked United defence in what felt like the blinking of an eye.

While goals from Antony and Anthony Martial would ultimately restore a semblance of pride, conceding six against your city rivals will never be fondly remembered.

Sir Alex Ferguson cut a frustrated figure as he watched on from the stands while Cristiano Ronaldo could do little as he was left languishing on the bench.

Joao Cancelo sends Bruno Fernandes for a spin

However, while it is the forward-going superstars that have their faces splashed all over the media today, there were some very handy performances elsewhere in the City line-up.

Joao Cancelo once again showed he is rated as one of the best full-backs in the game and there was one moment in particular that brilliantly highlighted that fact.

Receiving a floated pass from Ederson, Cancelo found himself under pressure from United star Bruno Fernandes.

With a quick shimmy and a drop of the shoulder, Cancelo had sent his hunter sprawling to the turf in a rather agricultural manner, before casually continuing the attack.

It was another afternoon to forget for Fernandes who once again failed to show up in a big game.

For City, however, it was just another step on their journey to yet more domestic domination.

Having conquered all there is to conquer in English climes, and with the frontman of his dreams, Pep Guardiola will be hoping to finally end that painful Champions League duck.

In Haaland, it is believed that the Spanish manager has finally found the piece to complete the puzzle and, with the likes of Cancelo, Foden and Kevin De Bruyne in support, it is hard to see anyone stopping City.
