Football Manager 2023 is one of the most anticipated games of the year.

The Sports Interactive simulation behemoth is one of the deepest, most detailed football games of all time, and continually brings new features into the game with each iteration.

FM22 sold over one million copies and SI will be hoping to see the same kind of results with FM23, which will release on multiple platforms on November 8th, 2022.

It will come out on PC, as well as PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch, although the PC version of the game is perhaps the most detailed you can find.

Over the weekend, SI revealed a variety of their headline features, and we’ll get into it below!

There are new features constantly added to the game with each year and FM23 is going to be no different.

SI released a video on YouTube over the weekend, revealing the features they will be hanging their hats on for FM23.

Let’s see exactly what they are!

Football Manager 2023: Recruitment Upgrade Revealed

Football Manager 2023 Squad Planner

This is going to be interesting this year.

SI has confirmed that there will be a massive revamp of the recruitment process in the game.

You’ll have access to a squad planner and experience matrix, which will allow you to assess your squad properly and plan for the future.

Your staff will rank the players you have but you can edit these rankings, and even add in potential transfer targets to see how you can improve, or potentially tweak your formation.

You’ll also get a look, in the Matrix, at different categories of players, including “Developing”, “Emerging”, “Peak”, and “Experienced” talent.

There has also been a tweak to scouting, with there being fewer scouting meetings and more immediate knowledge of players around you, meaning you’ll have a bevvy of players to choose from when you join a club.

Conversations with agents, too, have been improved, giving you a greater idea of what players want and need to join your club, while you can also now speak to the agent of players on your books regarding contract extensions.

Football Manager 2023: Smarter AI Revealed

Football Manager 2023 Match Engine (Sports Interactive)

This sounds like it’s going to be one of the toughest Football Manager games out there!

There are huge improvements made to the AI management system, meaning they will react more realistically in a game.

They will be more open to pressing on and chasing leads, while they will be wary of the context of a game. For example, a title-chasing side up against a relegation-threatened side will try to overwhelm them and press home their advantages, while, on the flip side, the relegation-threatened manager may be willing to settle for a precious point.

There will also be a change to the way AI managers pick their formations and change their tactics ahead of playing your side.

Football Manager 2023: Huge European Nights Unveiled

Football Manager 2023 UEFA Branding (Sports Interactive)

FM23 has the UEFA licence and SI has made a real attempt to integrate it properly into the game.

Not only will you now be able to qualify for the licenced competitions, but you will also have a hugely changed matchday experience, depending on whether you’ve qualified for the Champions League, the Europa League or the Europa Conference League.

There will be proper branding, while there will also be distinct walkout animations and the music that we all know and love. The branded balls for each tournament are in the game too.

There are also bespoke podiums for players to lift their trophies on if they manage to win it, and the interview and press conference backgrounds have been tweaked to reflect UEFA’s real-life sponsors.

Add in the change to cup draws, including all the relevant branding, and it sounds like the perfect time to try to beat the best in Europe!

Football Manager 2023: Fan Respect Revealed

fm23 supporter

There’s now a Supporter Confidence System that you’ll have to keep an eye on.

The supporter profiles of each club are split into six categories: Hardcore, Core, Family, Fair Weather, Corporate, and Casual.

A lower-league team that is fighting for survival, for example, aren’t likely to have many Fair Weather fans, although that might not be the case for a club like Manchester City. At the Etihad, there’s going to be no appetite to wait for success; there may be at a club like Gillingham.

There are going to be constant upgrades to how the fans view you – based on your club identity, how you play against rivals, and the performances of individual players – and it could be vital to your job security.

Football Manager 2023: Dynamic Manager Timeline Revealed

Football Manager 2023 Dynamic Manager Timeline (Sports Interactive)

A new Dynamic Manager Timeline is going to keep you updated on exactly what you’ve achieved in Football Manager 2023.

It’s designed to focus on the things you achieve based on the club you’re managing – some players may take just as much pride in staving off relegation as others do in winning the top trophies.

The Manager Timeline now offers players the chance to see everything they’ve done, and share them easily with other fans!
