Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe may try to include both Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson in the same starting line-up in the near future, believes journalist Dean Jones.

The former joined the Tyneside outfit from Real Sociedad in a £60m deal (via BBC Sport) during the summer, but Jones does not think that necessarily spells the end of the latter's career at St James' Park.

Who is Newcastle's first-choice striker?

Well it has to be Isak after Newcastle spent £60m to bring him to the club in the last transfer window.

The 23-year-old has started three games for Howe's side so far and has scored two goals.

However, Isak is currently out with a leg injury and missed Saturday's impressive 4-1 win against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

In his absence, Wilson started and did not disappoint, scoring in that victory. Prior to the triumph in west London, though, the Englishman had been sidelined due to a hamstring injury, so Howe has not had both him and Isak available at the same time yet.

What has Jones said about Isak and Wilson?

When Howe finally has both Isak and Wilson at his disposal, Jones thinks the two strikers starting together is a possibility.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "We'll have to wait and see whether they can force Isak and Wilson into the same frontline. I'm sure they will try to do that."

Should Howe play Isak and Wilson together?

There will definitely be times in games where it makes sense to have Isak and Wilson on the pitch at the same time.

Both players are capable goalscorers, so you would not say no to using them together when chasing an equaliser or winner in the second half.

Isak was not at his best last season, scoring just six goals in La Liga, but the campaign prior he was quite prolific.

In 34 appearances, the Sweden international found the back of the net 17 times to help Real Sociedad finish fifth.

As for Wilson, he is also very much a threat when he is fit. Since joining Newcastle from Bournemouth for £20m (via BBC Sport) just over two years ago, the 30-year-old has scored 23 goals in 50 outings.

Considering all of the above, then, there probably will be times where the St James' Park faithful see Isak and Wilson playing together. But if Howe continues to stick with a system that only uses one striker, you would expect Isak to be the one who starts when both forwards are fit.
