Football Manager 2023 is coming later this year and we will get a complete overhaul of recruitment in the new game!

The upcoming Sports Interactive release will come out on November 8th, and fans are already remarkably hyped about the upcoming game.

Not only will we get an overhaul of recruitment, but we’ll also be able to play in officially licenced UEFA competitions, including the Champions League, the Europa League, the Europa Conference League and the UEFA Super Cup.

It is a huge new feature that has shocked many long-time fans of FM games, but perhaps the nuts and bolts are how will you be able to go about buying new players for your squad?

We’ve taken a look at the new features below!

Football Manager 23: Recruitment Upgrade Explained

The main thing that SI are attempting to do is allow managers to plan for the future.

Not only will you be able to plan for the next transfer window, but you’ll also be able to make plans for future windows in the coming years.

Let’s have a look at how that is going to work.

Football Manager 2023: SI Reveal Squad Planner

Football Manager 2023 Squad Planner (Sports Interactive)

SI has unveiled the new Squad Planner that will allow players to look at the current options they have and also make plans for the future.

There will be ratings for each player in your squad, set by your Assistant Manager, but you can set about editing those lists, particularly if you want to sell a key player, for example.

These lists are only for you, so they won’t irritate a striker who isn’t scoring!

You can also drop youth players in, change your tactics, and potentially even add transfer targets to see how they would improve your squad.

The Squad Planner is going to be a page you use often, so there will be prompts elsewhere in your Inbox to take you straight into the Planner.

Football Manager 2023: Experience Matrix Revealed

This is cool.

It’s a new visualisation of what your squad is made up of when it comes to players and where they are in their respective careers.

They are broken down into the following categories:

  • Developing – Young players yet to break through to the first XI at the senior level.
  • Emerging – Young first-team players that still can improve.
  • Peak – Players at the peak of their powers.
  • Experienced – Players who are entering the final years of their careers.

These players will all be colour coded and that will indicate whether these players are important to your team, or are just squad depth.

Football Manager 2023: Scouting Enhancement Unveiled

Football Manager 2023 Recruitment Focus (Sports Interactive)

You’re going to be sending scouts out and about constantly in FM23 and the new Recruitment Focus allows you to pick out exactly the type of player you want.

You can tell your scouts if you want to sign a player outright, bring them in on loan, or potentially both, and go very granular in detail, including age, weight, height, potential ability, their likeliness of receiving a work permit and more.

You can mark these as either Top Priority, Standard Priority or Ongoing; the Top Priority focuses will need three scouts.

The scouts will then get to work and bring you reports throughout, and you’ll get information when the search is complete.

In addition to this, there are going to be a lot more players fully scouted when you take over a club, while there will be fewer scouting meetings too.

Football Manager 2023: Agent Improvements Revealed

FM23 Agent Demands (Sports Interactive)

There has also been a change to agents, and you’ll want to speak to them more often.

The Ask Agent Availability option moves on, allowing you to potentially ask how interested a player is in a move, and allowing you to subtly edit parts of his contract before entering into talks with a club, just like in real life.

When you go into contract negotiations, you’ll then have more information unlocked as a reward for speaking to the agent.

You can also attempt to rescue negotiations if they have fallen apart once by speaking directly to a player’s representative. You can also now speak to agents about players in your club regarding potential contract extensions.
