Wolverhampton Wanderers may profit from the decision to send Fabio Silva out on loan as he could return to Molineux as 'a new player', according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

While Wolves' poor run of form led to the sacking of Bruno Lage at the weekend, Silva has enjoyed a productive start to the campaign.

Having signed a one-year contract extension with Wolves, Silva was ousted by Lage and completed a season-long loan move to Belgian side Anderlecht in July.

The 20-year-old has already found the back of the net seven times and registered a further two assists in his new surroundings.

Silva's impressive form comes after he struggled to adjust to the rigours of the Premier League following his £35million switch to Wolves from Porto two years ago.

The striker has only got his name on the scoresheet four times over the course of close to 2,000 minutes of action in the English top flight.

It is understood that the agreement which allowed Silva to join Anderlecht for the 2022/23 campaign does not include a recall clause.

O'Rourke believes Wolves would have benefited from Silva in the short-term if he had remained at Molineux, but his loan move to Anderlecht could pay off.

The journalist feels the Portuguese star will return to the West Midlands as an improved attacker thanks to gaining confidence in Belgium.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "Although he wasn't pulling up any trees at Wolves, it would have been good to have him available.

"But he has done well over in Belgium, so he might come back a new player next season for Wolves and that's what they'll be hoping.

"If he's gone there and got regular first-team football, it will only aid his development."

While Silva has struggled in a Wolves shirt, only scoring four goals in 62 outings, sanctioning his loan departure resulted in the club having to dip into the transfer market.

Sasa Kalajdzic cost £15.5million plus add-ons and Wanderers then suffered the blow of the striker picking up an anterior cruciate ligament injury on his debut.

That led to a shortage of strikers and, as a result, then-boss Lage welcomed free agent Diego Costa to Molineux.

Wolves are the Premier League's lowest scorers and keeping Silva on board may have made them more of a force in the final third of the pitch.
