Newcastle United’s latest signing Garang Kuol will be able to ‘quickly make an impact’ in the Premier League after the forward agreed to join the Magpies in January, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Eddie Howe splashed over £120 million on new recruits during the summer but further investment could soon be made at St James’ Park.

What is the latest on Kuol?

The 18-year-old put pen to paper on his contract in the North East last week and will join up with his new teammates at the turn of the year.

Kuol described the move as ‘amazing’ and promised to ‘train hard and play hard’ prior to his arrival after the World Cup.

According to reports, the deal will see Newcastle pay Central Coast Mariners around £500,000 for his services, with lucrative sell-on clauses also promised, and make Kuol one of Australia’s highest-paid players.

It is understood that the attacker's new contract will see him earn £25,000 per week at St James’ Park following a swift rise to prominence having only joined the Mariners' youth team in January 2021.

He has since scored four goals in 10 games for the first team and recently made his debut for the Australia national team in a friendly with New Zealand.

What has Jones said on the deal?

Jones understands that Kuol could be set to make an immediate impact in the English top flight when he joins in January.

He added that the deal is a sign of a continued transfer strategy employed by the club.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “It definitely seems like they have got their eye on this level of talent at the moment. I haven't seen him personally but I have spoken to people who have seen him and they think he is the sort of player that will quickly make an impact in the Premier League.”

Why did Newcastle sign the teenager?

With Callum Wilson, Chris Wood and Alexander Isak now at Howe’s disposal, there was arguably no real need to bring in another striker any time soon.

But sporting director Dan Ashworth explained the move after it was announced, describing Kuol as a ‘very promising talent’.

He added that the club's philosophy is to invest in their academy and ‘exciting young players’ as well as superstars to make an immediate impact in the starting XI.
