CM Punk's comments about fellow former WWE Champion The Rock from 2011 really haven't aged well.During this time as WWE Champion in 2011, CM Punk had some interesting things to say about The Rock, who had just returned to the company. However, based on things that have happened with Punk this summer, the comments have resurfaced, and it doesn't exactly paint the best picture of the 43-year-old.

CM Punk's comments have aged pretty Spoorly

Back in 2011, CM Punk commented on how he wasn't happy with how The Rock claimed that the success of WrestleMania XXVII was down to the fact that he hosted the show.

Speaking at a red carpet event, the former WWE Superstar said that he hoped that people would call him out for similar things when he became a veteran.

For him to come back and try and claim that WrestleMania was successful because of him, it grinds on my nerves. I can only hope that in ten years, when I'm old and old of touch, there are going to be some young punk kids pointing at me saying 'you're old and out of touch.'"

Punk's prediction seems to have come true, with people within the wrestling industry now criticising him for his comments and behaviour since returning to wrestling with AEW in August 2021.

Tony Khan has said that Punk's return is part of the reason that AEW is doing so well at the moment, and the veteran hasn't exactly shied away from saying he agrees with his boss' assessment of things.

In fact, the lines from the ex-WWE star about how he's contributed to the success of AEW thus far, as pointed out by fans, are remarkably similar to the things he called The Rock out for 11 years ago.

Below is a selection of tweets from fans in response to the clip re-emerging, with many calling out Punk for being the out-of-touch veteran that he labelled The Rock as in 2011.

Is CM Punk suspended from AEW?

According to the Wrestling Observer, CM Punk is out right now serving a suspension from AEW after his actions following All Out on September 4.

Moments after winning the AEW World Championship, CM Punk went on a verbal attack against, Hangman Page, Kenny Omega, MJF and the Young Bucks during the post-show medical scrum.

Punk's comments resulted in The Elite confronting Punk once he'd wrapped up his press conference, which led to a physical altercation.

Since then, all four men have been suspended from AEW, and haven't appeared on TV since pending an internal investigation.

This came just a few weeks after reports from Fightful Select emerged which revealed backstage issues that Punk was dealing with within AEW, with there even being fears that he'd leave, if reports are to be believed.
