Leeds United winger Jack Harrison will only stay with the club on a long-term basis if the ambition of owner Andrea Radrizzani matches his own, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Italian businessman provided manager Jesse Marsch with just shy of £100 million to bolster his squad during the summer transfer window but the future of one star is hanging in the balance at Elland Road.

What is the latest on Harrison?

The 25-year-old was the subject of intense interest from Newcastle United following the end of last season, with the Magpies seeing two bids rejected, with the largest worth more than £20 million.

Harrison has not let a summer of speculation affect his performances, however, and he has made a fast start to the 2022-23 campaign.

The former New York City star has provided one goal and three assists in the Whites’ opening seven top-flight matches.

Following that bright start to the season, Leeds are set to open talks with Harrison over a new contract at Elland Road, according to Football Insider, with his current £60,000 per-year deal set to expire in the summer of 2024.

Interest in his services is not dying down either, however.

It is understood that Newcastle have stepped up their interest once again with the West Yorkshire giants slapping a £35 million price tag on him.

What has O’Rourke said on the situation?

O’Rourke understands that whether Harrison stays or goes will depend on the ambition shown by Radrizzani.

The journalist adds that the club are looking to build a project at Elland Road after investing heavily in the transfer market.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “It all depends on Leeds’ ambition. I think Leeds are looking to build going forward. They spent heavily in the transfer market even though they lost two big players in Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha. Jack Harrison’s had a great start to the season and things are going well for him at Leeds right now.”

Would Harrison be a big loss for Leeds?

With Raphinha now absent from Marsch’s attack, Harrison has become the man to turn to for a flash of inspiration at Elland Road.

In 173 appearances for the club, he has scored 29 goals and provided 25 assists, with 29 of those goal contributions coming in the Premier League.

There is a reason clubs like Newcastle are looking at him, after all. His contract situation will no doubt be causing a bit of panic behind the scenes at Leeds too.
