Rangers will ‘want to keep’ some of their experienced players on the books while also bringing in fresh faces, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Gers have several players who have been at the club for many seasons now, and a handful of them are out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

What is the latest news involving Rangers?

At present, Ryan Jack, Filip Helander, Steven Davis, Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor are all set to become free agents next summer with the quintet forming a large part of Rangers’ senior leadership group.

Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos, key players in their prime for manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, are also in identical situations, while it remains to be seen if the Glasgow giants take up their option-to-buy over James Sands and Malik Tillman.

That means it could be another transfer window of mass changes for Rangers after Van Bronckhorst oversaw several incomings and outgoings in the window just gone.

The likes of Ben Davies, Tom Lawrence, Antonio Colak and Rabbi Matondo were welcomed to the club as established stars such as Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo moved on to pastures new in big-money deals.

Only time will tell if Van Bronckhorst feels the need to overhaul his first-team squad ahead of next term but finding the right balance between the trusted players and new blood will be crucial to success.

What has O’Rourke said about Rangers?

O’Rourke believes that the Rangers hierarchy will be determined to retain the services of many of their elder statesmen over the coming months.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “Rangers want to keep some of those players as well, though.

“You want established, experienced players in the squad as well as fresh faces. Obviously, Rangers did do quite a bit of business in the summer transfer window to freshen things up.”

How well are Rangers performing?

It’s been an indifferent start to the season for Rangers, but a 4-0 victory over Hearts in the Scottish Premiership over the weekend will have been a significant boost for them.

That result kept Van Bronckhorst’s charges just two points behind Celtic in the top-flight standings ahead of hectic October fixture schedule.

Enticing domestic clashes against St Mirren, Motherwell, Dundee, Livingston and Aberdeen are still to come along with the return fixtures with Liverpool and Napoli in the Champions League.

It’s Rangers’ games against Scottish opposition where Van Bronckhorst will really be judged, though, and those results may play a part in how he approaches the subsequent transfer markets.
