The Champions League is the greatest club competition in world football.

Every single year, lovers of the sport are treated to feasts of football action all across Europe.

The very best teams on the planet facing off against each other on a regular basis, there really is nothing better than that in the sporting world, is there?

Up until the 1992/93 season, the Champions League was known as the European Cup, with Barcelona the last team to lift the coveted Big Ears trophy before UEFA's rebrand.

Sergei Yuran of Benfica and Jean-Pierre Papin of Marseille finished as the joint-top scorers that season, each of them bagging seven goals.

Marseille were actually the first team to win the Champions League in 1992/93, although they were eventually stripped of the title due to their involvement in a high-profile bribery scandal.

So, who won the Champions League in the 1990s then?

AC Milan were the first legal winners of the rebranded competition, the Italian outfit thrashing Barcelona 4-0 in the 1993/94 final.

The Rossoneri lost 1-0 in the final to Ajax the following season, with Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid and Manchester United the other four teams to lift the trophy in the '90s.

It was a cracking decade of action in the Champions League theatre and we've decided to take a trip down memory lane by creating a quiz to test your knowledge of the competition in its earlier days.

All you have to do is name the 20 footballers who played in the European festival of football at some point from the start of the 1992/93 season to the end of 1998/99.
