Chelsea star Raheem Sterling has released his fourth signature boot with New Balance.

The “Route to Success” boot celebrates Sterling's commitment to football from a young age, and the sacrifices his sister Lakima made in the early days of his career.

Sterling wore the boots during Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace, and they are now available to purchase from New Balance.

How does Raheem Sterling’s new boot celebrate his sister Lakima?

Sterling began his career for Queens Park Rangers, attending the club’s training centre five times a week. This required him to get three buses there and back – the 18, 182 and 140.

The youngster's stepsister Lakima would accompany her brother on the bus to training every day, sacrificing her evenings to help him achieve his dreams.

Sterling’s New Balance boot pay homage to Lakima, featuring her name and the three bus route numbers on the soleplate.

It has the same design as the prints used on the bus seats, and the "Route to Success" strapline acknowledges the dedication required to become a professional football star.

“3 buses to get to training,” Sterling wrote on Twitter. “18, 182 and 140. I'll never forget those numbers. No matter what, my big sister Lakima with me every single day.

“My latest boot is dedicated to her and all those moments we shared together, on the #RouteToSuccess.”

Raheem Sterling pays tribute to sister

Sterling, who has played for Liverpool and Manchester City during an illustrious career, has previously opened up about the sacrifices his family made for him.

“My mum would never let me go to training alone,” he wrote in The Players’ Tribune. “And she always had to work, so my sister would have to take me all the way out to Heathrow.

“Three buses. The 18 to the 182 to the 140. The red double-deckers with the blue wool ’80s vibe on the seats. Spent ages on those. We’d leave at 3:15 and get home at 11 p.m. Every. Single. Day.

“She’d sit upstairs in the little cafe and chill until I was done with training. Imagine being 17 years old and doing that for your little brother. And I never once heard her say, “Nah, I don’t wanna take him.

“At the time, I didn’t understand how much she was sacrificing. Her and my mum got me here. My whole family played a massive part in my life. Without them, you wouldn’t even know me.”

Sterling has now made more than 300 appearances in the Premier League, and has featured for England at two World Cups. He also played in every single match at Euro 2020 as his country reached the final.

His success has hopefully justified all the sacrifices his family made at the start of his career!
