Southampton could replace manager Ralph Hasenhuttl with Brentford’s Thomas Frank as the Dane ‘definitely fits the bill’ at St Mary’s, but they may struggle to tempt him away from west London, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Hasenhuttl was handed more than £60 million to strengthen his squad during the summer transfer window, but a dismal run of form has seen the pressure mount on him once again.

What is the latest on the Austrian?

The Saints suffered their third defeat in a row in the Premier League this season, losing 2-1 to Everton on the south coast on Saturday afternoon.

It has left Southampton slumped in 16th place and hovering precariously over the bottom three, with just one point currently keeping them out of the drop-zone.

The club have also scored just two goals in their previous five outings in the Premier League, leaving plenty of questions for Hasenhuttl to answer, as some supporters booed them off the field after their most recent outing.

However, Southampton are set to give the former RB Leipzig manager more time to turn things around, according to The Athletic.

What has Jones said on the situation?

Jones has suggested that Brentford boss Frank would be a perfect fit for Southampton if they were to part ways with Hasenhuttl.

However, the journalist adds that it may prove a tough ask tempting him away from the Bees any time soon, despite Southampton now boasting former Brentford director Rasmus Ankersen.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I think Thomas Frank definitely fits the bill to a certain extent. But I also wonder about whether he sees it as the ideal step right now. He's been very committed to this project at Brentford. Brentford are in a pretty good place at the moment and I think he would need convincing that it's the right job for him. It would be interesting to see where they turn.”

Would Frank be a good appointment?

It is easy to see why Southampton could be drawn to the Brentford boss if they were to look for a change.

The 48-year-old has produced consistently exciting and effective football since making the move to England, with his side scoring 338 goals in his 200 matches in charge.

Frank has racked up an average points haul of 1.61 per game as well, taking Brentford into the Premier League and establishing them there in the process.

He is a manager attracting plenty of interest, with Leicester previously weighing up a swoop.
