Trent Alexander-Arnold scored an absolutely outrageous free-kick in Liverpool's Champions League clash vs Rangers.

The Liverpool star has endured a seriously tough couple of weeks after Gareth Southgate opted not to play him in England's recent UEFA Nations League matches.

He was also widely criticised for his performance in Liverpool's 3-3 draw to Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday.

However, Alexander-Arnold has mustered the perfect response to his critics with an incredible strike against Rangers.

Alexander-Arnold's free-kick

The goal came in just the seventh minute of play.

Liverpool won a free-kick roughly 25 yards from their opponent's goal and up stepped Alexander-Arnold.

The Englishman, ever the specialist, expertly whipped the ball at speed over the wall and straight into the top left corner.

It really was top draw, and you can view the strike below.

What a strike from Alexander-Arnold and what a moment for the 23-year-old.

After arguably being England's leading right back, as well as potentially the best right back in the world for a time, to come under such heavy fire must have been tough going.

The last few months have certainly been the hardest of his short career to date, and so to answer his critics so emphatically must have been incredibly satisfying.

Jurgen Klopp on Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool boss, Klopp, shared his feelings on Southgate snubbing Alexander-Arnold prior to last weekend's Premier League fixtures.

"I have a lot of things to say but I don't think it makes sense," Klopp said in last Friday's press conference.

"We are fine here, it's completely different. I see Trent differently, that's clear.

"People talk about him not being a good defender, that's not true, he is a good defender, he doesn't always defend good, that's true. He's 23. We're working on it.

"Whatever team I would have at the moment; I would pick Trent. He is exceptional.

"It's Gareth's decision. He made it. I see it different. Doesn't mean right/wrong.

"Trent came back not in a party mood but he accepts the manager's decision because he is extremely bright.

"The manager decides and more often than not here it is the case he is picked. It's clear, he's a world-class player."

A world-class player he most certainly is.

Let's hope that this moment of genius can help Alexander-Arnold return to the previously scintillating performance levels we were so used to witnessing from him week after week.
