Trent Alexander-Arnold sent a clear message to his doubters on Tuesday night with his performance against Rangers in the Champions League.

The embattled Liverpool right-back, who has found himself at the centre of a fierce national debate, more than got the job done against the Glasgow based side in front of the Anfield faithful.

His beautiful free-kick in the opening exchanges set the ball rolling for the reds who would go on to secure three points on a comfortable Merseyside evening.

Having been left languishing on the sidelines of the England set-up, Alexander-Arnold would have been determined to show his worth, especially after some questionable defending against Brighton.

With the World Cup fast approaching and Trent's supposed lack of defensive nous working against him, the 22-year-old is going to have to be at his electric best to secure a seat on the plane to Qatar.

What we saw at Anfield on Tuesday wasn't exactly vintage, but it was certainly a step in the right direction, with the side of Trent that has made him so popular shining through.

He caused many a problem going forward and, with Jordan Henderson covering the space in behind him, he was able to express himself.

His highlights package, which you can see below, proves that we all saw a far more comfortable Trent on Tuesday night.

They stepped up to the mark, rising to their feet to give one of their own a spine-tingling standing ovation.

It was yet another mark of Klopp's superb man-management skills with Trent able to soak in some home comforts in the midst of a testing period.

Lovely stuff - Anfield knew exactly what their young buck needed and they duly delivered.

All Trent can do is keep his head down and keep delivering stand-out performances.

If the decision is then made to to still leave him at home for the World Cup, then he can at least rest in the knowledge that he did all he could.
