Wolverhampton Wanderers may find it ‘impossible’ to appoint Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim as their next manager, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The 37-year-old has emerged as a candidate to replace compatriot Bruno Lage after he was sacked following a run of one win from his previous 15 Premier League games at the helm.

What is the latest news involving Amorim?

Amorim was originally touted as a possible replacement for Lage in the Wolves hot seat, but that speculation already appears to have ended after it was reported that he has no desire to quit Sporting.

Portuguese sources (via The Sun) claim that the young tactician is not ready to depart a Champions League club for a side currently embroiled in a relegation battle.

And combined with that, Amorim also is said to have a £20 million-plus buyout clause inserted into his contract and is signed to a different agency to super-agent Jorge Mendes, making any deal complicated.

Sporting are sitting at the top of Group D in Europe’s elite cup competition at this moment in time, and it seems as though Wolves may have to focus their attention and resources elsewhere as they continue to search for a new leader.

What has Sheth said about Amorim?

After revealing some experts in his homeland are comparing Amorim to Mourinho, Sheth then disclosed that many also view an imminent switch to Wolves as ‘simply impossible’.

He told GiveMeSport: “A lot of the other experts in Portugal are saying it'll be simply impossible for him to go from Sporting Lisbon in this season.

“Particularly because he's doing so well with them, in particular in the Champions League, and swap that for a relegation battle, because that's what it looks like at the moment at Wolves.”

Who else could Wolves appoint?

A recent report in the Express & Star claimed that former Olympiacos manager Pedro Martins is under consideration by the Midlands outfit, partly due to his close connections to Mendes.

Nevertheless, The Telegraph has stated that Sevilla’s Julen Lopetegui and Bo Svensson of Mainz are ahead of the Portuguese tactician on Wolves’ shortlist.

And the same outlet has also revealed that Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper will be assessed if he is relieved of his duties at the City Ground over the coming days or weeks.

Only time will tell who the Wolves hierarchy opt to place their faith in, but it seems increasingly unlikely that Amorim will be the person tasked with transforming their fortunes.
