Wolverhampton Wanderers remain on the lookout for a new manager and Carlos Carvalhal is a surprise contender to 'keep an eye on' amid 'a lot of talk' over the Molineux job, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Following a wretched run of form which had seen Wolves drop into the Premier League's relegation zone, chairman Jeff Shi sacked Bruno Lage at the weekend.

What's the latest news involving Carvalhal?

According to Portuguese media outlet Record, Carvalhal is among the candidates to replace Lage in the Wolves hot seat.

The report suggests the 56-year-old, who has previously managed the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City, would be open to making the move to the West Midlands.

Carvalhal has also been linked with the Hull City job in recent days, but it has emerged that he will not be taking over at the Championship club.

In a major development which will result in Wolves not having to pay a compensation fee, the Portuguese was axed by UAE Pro League outfit Al Wahda earlier this week.

Carvalhal only had four games in charge and, strangely, his dismissal came after a 4-0 win over Al-Bataeh on Sunday.

What has Dharmesh Sheth said about Carvalhal?

Sheth believes Carvalhal is in the running to be named as fellow countryman Lage's successor at Wolves.

The Sky Sports reporter also feels super-agent Jorge Mendes will be heavily involved in the process of making a Molineux appointment.

Sheth told GIVEMESPORT: "The other name is a familiar name in Carlos Carvalhal. He is the former Swansea City and Sheffield Wednesday manager.

"There's a lot of talk that Wolverhampton Wanderers are looking at him, so that is just one to keep an eye on.

"But, of course, the other link we can't not mention when you talk about Wolves is Jorge Mendes. I'm sure that the manager will maybe have a link with Jorge Mendes at Wolverhampton Wanderers because that seems to be the way that Wolves seem to do their business just now."

Would Carvalhal be a risky appointment?

Although Carvalhal has racked up 229 wins from his 551 matches in management, he does not have a particularly eye-catching record in the Premier League.

He took charge of 18 fixtures in the competition while at the Swansea helm but only led the Welsh side to five victories.

Carvalhal has also averaged less than a year at the helm of his previous employers, having managed the likes of Besiktas, Braga and Sporting, so there is a distinct possibility that he would be no more than a short-term fix.

Although Carvalhal has won silverware in his homeland, Wolves may be better off looking elsewhere as they seek a Lage replacement.
