Eddie Hearn has provided an update around all the chaos surrounding Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn after it was announced the latter had failed a drugs test.

The open workout session has gone ahead as planned as talks continue about trying to get the fight to go ahead after it was prohibited by the British Boxing Board of Control.

Robert Smith’s statement confirmed that they were comfortable with the fight going ahead after the fight was deemed not to be in the interest of boxing following the drugs test news, although Benn hasn’t been suspended.

Obviously it’s been a whirlwind afternoon for the boxing world, summing up a hectic few weeks with the Tyson Fury rollercoaster as well as the Errol Spence Jr vs Terence Crawford bout in doubt.

However, Eddie Hearn has done his best to clarify the situation, saying: “I think we have just seen the British Boxing Board of Control’s statement, and it’s pretty straightforward and it’s going backwards and forwards with the lawyers right now.

“Both guys signed up to a multitude of testing for this fight, the UK testing which is obviously the testing agent the British Boxing Board of Control go by and they were all negative, but there was the adverse finding on the VADA test previously.

“So, there’s not been an official doping violation, there’s a process that it has to go through, Conor Benn is not suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control, ultimately, he can’t be because he’s passed all the tests from UKAD, but clearly, the British Boxing Board of Control will take a position on it.

“We’ll deal with the lawyers, both camps have been made aware of course, previously, before the article came out about the situation and both camps are prepared to progress with the fight, but ultimately the conversations have to be had with the lawyers and teams and the British Boxing Board of Control.”

The simple is we have no idea yet, there’s so many reports flying around, it’s hard to know what to believe, with everyone having contrasting ‘news’ and ‘sources’ when making claims.

Thankfully, Hearn will be reliable as any with him being involved in all the important conversations, and the main thing is it sounds like both parties still want the fight to happen.

Hopefully we can see the two go toe-to-toe, but only if it’s right, we wouldn’t want any result overshadowed by the chaos that has ensued today, and that’s far from over yet…
