Joe Hart didn't exactly cover himself in glory during Celtic's trip to RB Leipzig on Wednesday.Reinvigorated since moving to Glasgow on the back of a few years in the footballing wilderness, the former England number one has, on the whole, thrived in the green and white hoops. However, just days after facing accusations of faking an injury at Celtic Park, Hart made a critical error that cost the Scottish club dearly in their latest Champions League clash.

Celtic's tough trip to RB Leipzig

The trip to Germany to face one of the Bundesliga's strongest clubs was always going to be a tough one for Scotland's reigning champions, but they did indeed enter the final 30 minutes of the game at 1-1.

While the potentially Chelsea-bound Christopher Nkunku might have opened the scoring in the first-half, Jota levelled proceedings just after the break to offer a glimmer of hope for Celtic.

But that looked to have been extinguished as the game entered its final half-hour courtesy of the fantastic Dominik Szoboszlai reestablishing Leipzig's lead with a sweet strike from the edge of the box.

Hart's error allows RB Leipzig to go 2-1 up

Or so we thought, because the goal was actually ruled out in a reprieve for Celtic that could have seen them kick on and make an impact in the game once again.

Sadly, though, that couldn't have proven to be further from the case as mere seconds after VAR had ruled out Szoboszlai's strike, Hart played the ball straight back to the Hungarian baller and allowed him to set up Andre Silva to score.

The Celtic fans were practically still celebrating when Hart's misjudged pass allowed Silva to burst into the penalty area, finding the back of the net via the post with a goal that most certainly stood.

Take about a nightmare. You can check out Hart's costly miscue down below:

An error that reflects Hart's career?

It's a crushing mistake to make at the best of times, never mind just a few seconds after conceding a goal that VAR had saved you from.

Of course, there's not a single goalkeeper in the world who doesn't make errors from time to time, but Hart costing his team as a result of his distribution certainly carries a particular sting when you consider how his career has panned out.

It's no secret, after all, that Pep Guardiola showed Hart the door at Manchester City as a direct result of his footwork in a move that ultimately changed the goalkeeper's fortunes forever.

And unfortunately, when you see Hart making a pass as poor as the one that cost Celtic a goal at the Red Bull Arena, Guardiola's assessment only carriers greater credence as time goes on.

Damningly, too, Silva's goal proved to be a real turning point in the game for Celtic as they went onto lose 3-1 with Leipzig's Portuguese hitman adding another strike to his collection at the end of a superb team move.
