Paris Saint-Germain dropped points for the first time in the Champions League this season on Wednesday evening.

The French side went into their European encounter away at Benfica on the back of victories over Juventus and Maccabi Haifa.

But PSG couldn't make it three wins from three in the 2022/23 group stage, an own goal from Danilo Pereira just before the half-time break earning the Portuguese hosts a precious 1-1 draw.

It was Lionel Messi who put PSG 1-0 up in the opening 45 minutes of play with a truly sublime goal.

The Argentine linked up with Neymar near the edge of the Benfica penalty area and then produced a sumptuous first-time finish with the instep of his legendary left foot.

But despite Messi's best efforts at the Estadio da Luz, PSG had to make do with a point and tempers flared at the end of what was a very eventful game.

Fabian Ruiz, Neymar and Marco Verratti were all shown yellow cards by the referee in second half stoppage-time.

And judging by Neymar's handshake with Ortiz Arias after the full-time whistle had been blown, the Brazilian superstar wasn't at all happy with the officiating.

The footage below is giving us serious flashbacks to Thomas Tuchel versus Antonio Conte during Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur's 2-2 draw earlier on in the season...

Video: Neymar's awkward handshake with UEFA official

Okay, it wasn't quite as entertaining as Tuchel and Conte's fierce touchline battle at Stamford Bridge a couple of months back, but it's still pretty darn funny nonetheless.

Neymar clearly said something to Arias before shaking his hand, which prompted the official to react in a slightly hostile manner.

To say the PSG forward wasn't best pleased with that outcome would be something of an understatement and we couldn't help but have a good ol' giggle at his sarcastic thumbs up gesture.

Away from the handshake debacle, Neymar's assist against Benfica means his goal contribution tally for the campaign is now even more astounding.

The former Barcelona man's 13 appearances across all competitions in 2022/23 so far have yielded 11 goals and nine assists, a return worthy of Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo in their absolute prime.

Neymar will be targeting more success in the final third on both the weekend in PSG's Ligue 1 match away at Stade Reims and next week when they host Benfica at the Parc des Princes.
