Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey has gained the attention of numerous 'top clubs' and that will be 'concerning' for Villa Park boss Steven Gerrard, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Midlands giants have made an underwhelming start to the season and, ahead of a trip to Nottingham Forest on Monday, are hovering just above the relegation zone.

What's the latest news involving Ramsey?

Former Villa goalkeeper David James has claimed that it will not be long before there are numerous clubs queuing up to sign Ramsey if he maintains his fine form.

Liverpool are long-term admirers of the central midfielder and it was reported earlier this year that the Merseyside giants have stepped up their pursuit as boss Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his options with youthful additions.

But it is understood that Villa have no intention of selling Ramsey if interest is strengthened at the end of the campaign.

Gerrard, who is approaching a year in charge after being appointed as the club's head coach last November, is not under pressure to sell the 21-year-old.

That is because, in April, Ramsey committed his long-term future to Villa by penning a deal which will keep him on board until 2027.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Ramsey?

O'Rourke believes Ramsey has worked his way onto the radar of numerous sides and, as a result, that will be a worry for Villa.

But the journalist feels agreeing fresh terms earlier in the year has put his current employers in a strong negotiating position.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "I'm sure some of the top clubs in the Premier League - and maybe even in Europe as well - are watching Jacob Ramsey.

"It will be concerning for Villa, but he signed a new contract not long ago so they're in a good position with regards to his future.

"If he continues to impress and develop, there is no doubt there will be interest from other top clubs."

How has Ramsey performed so far this season?

Ramsey's importance to Villa is emphasised by the fact he has made nine appearances since the campaign got underway, scoring one goal and contributing a further assist in the process.

The academy product, who has been handed 72 outings since coming through the ranks, was also nominated for the Premier League's player of the month award for September.

Statistics show Ramsey is among Villa's top five performers since the Premier League season kicked-off, having achieved an average match rating of 6.69.

He took his tally of England under-21 caps up to nine during the international break last month, so he is making an impression away from Villa Park as well.
