Guenther Steiner has said that he is 'done' with employing rookie drivers at Haas for the time being.

The team has got Kevin Magnussen locked in for next year after the Dane quickly showed that he'd lost none of his ability in his year away from the sport in 2021.

Indeed, he also served as a reminder of how important experience is behind the wheel, with Haas rather writing off last year by not looking to develop the car in order to focus on 2022, with them employing two rookies in Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher.

Schumacher, of course, remains with the team and is still fighting for a seat there for 2023, with Nico Hulkenberg thought to be the other contender for the seat, and Steiner has confirmed that the team will not be looking to add a fresh face to the team for the time being, in terms of a driver with no F1 experience.

Assessing the options he has available to him for 2023, Steiner said:

“There is not a lot out there anymore on open seats and drivers. There’s not a lot of options, so we just want to make sure that we take the right decision and have no regrets next year.”

Before adding rookies were not in his thinking at the moment:

“I would say I’m done in the moment with rookies for the foreseeable future. But I mean, we need to see what is best for the team or who’s the best person or who is the best driver to bring the team forward.”

This surely means it's Mick v Nico for that other seat in the team and Schumacher has five more races maximum to try and show he deserves the drive for 2023.

He has apparently opened talks, according to reports in Germany, over a new contract with the team but until there is an official announcement either way we should be open to expecting either German partnering Magnussen for '23.
