Every single year, the FIFA player ratings cause a stir on social media.EA Sports put their neck on the line each time and try to please everyone, but ultimately it's an impossible task. That being said, the creators of football gaming's most famous franchise don't exactly help themselves. Each time a new edition of FIFA is released, there are some player ratings that leave you scratching your head and thinking: "How on earth did they come up with that then?!"The recently-released FIFA 23 is no different and we've cherry-picked 11 ratings that we still cannot get our heads around.Obviously, this is strictly our opinion and not everyone is going to agree with all of our choices (if any at all).So without further ado, here are 11 FIFA 23 ratings we think are quite a way off the mark...

1. Cristiano Ronaldo & Lionel Messi have the same pace rating

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's FIFA 23 cards

Ronaldo's footballing ability might be on the wane, but he's still very quick - far quicker than his eternal rival Messi, who would probably admit that fact himself. A very odd decision from EA.

2. Harry Kane's downgrade

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's FIFA 23 cards

Was Kane one of the best strikers in the world with Tottenham Hotspur last season? Yes, yes he was, so we're not quite sure how that merits a downgrade from 90 to 89.

3. Trent Alexander-Arnold only 69 shooting

Trent Alexander-Arnold's FIFA 23 card

EA are aware that Alexander-Arnold has one of the best right pegs in world football, right? The man is a bona fide expert at shooting, as was recently proved by his stunning free-kick for Liverpool in their 2-0 win over Rangers.

4. Gabriel Jesus rated lower than Jamie Vardy

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's FIFA 23 cards

Now, we're not saying Jesus should be rated much higher than Vardy, but a lower rating overall? Not for us. At the very least, the pair of strikers should be on a level playing field.

5. Rodri's lowly pace rating

Trent Alexander-Arnold's FIFA 23 card

Manchester City's midfield lynchpin isn't renowned for being rapid, however, a pace rating of 58 is insulting to the 26-year-old star. Rodri is nearly as slow as Jorginho (54 pace) and Toni Kroos (53 pace) on the game for goodness sake.

6. Axel Witsel's ridiculous pace downgrade

Now if you thought Rodri's pace rating was bad, wait until you see Witsel's. The Belgian's speed has decreased by 27 points, leaving him with a rating of 34 in the department. Poor ol' Axel.

7. Gianluigi Donnarumma & Keylor Navas have the same rating

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's FIFA 23 cards

How can a goalkeeper be rated the same as the player above him in the pecking order at a club? Make it make sense, EA...

8. N'Golo Kante rated higher than Luka Modric

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's FIFA 23 cards

Kante had an average, injury-interrupted season at Chelsea in 2021/22, while Luka Modric inspired Real Madrid to a La Liga and Champions League double. Need we say anymore?

9. Sergi Darder's ridiculous pace upgrade

Ah, what is known as the 'Reverse Witsel'. On FIFA 21, the Espanyol midfielder had a pace rating of 44. That's now near enough doubled to 82, making Darder a sought-after player on FIFA 23. Quite the evolution.

10. How is David De Gea still 87 overall?!

Trent Alexander-Arnold's FIFA 23 card

Even most Manchester United fans would admit that De Gea is not even close to being one of the world's top 10 goalkeepers these days. A rating of 85 or lower, not one that's only two fewer than Alisson and Ederson, is what's required.

11. Luis Diaz & Jadon Sancho have the same rating

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's FIFA 23 cards

Probably our most controversial selection of the lot. However, Diaz's incredible impact at Liverpool last season and Sancho's lack of impact at United leads us to believe that the Colombian should have the edge here. Just our opinion, though...
