WWE: Triple H surprisingly fired 'fantastic' Raw name on Tuesday

Triple H is now essentially running WWE

WWE has fired Jimmy Smith, the ex-lead commentator for Monday Night Raw, as Triple H continues to make changes to the product.

In a statement today, WWE confirmed several changes to the commentary teams for Raw, SmackDown and even NXT.

One of the changes saw Smith, who previously worked in the world of MMA, replaced as lead announcer for Raw by Kevin Patrick.

When did WWE fire Jimmy Smith?

Smith is not just finishing up as the lead commentator for Raw, but Fightful Select first reported that he’s done with WWE.

The former WWE broadcaster then, with a statement onto Twitter, confirmed that he worked his last show for the company on Monday night.

Just wanted to say, now that the story is officially out, that my time with the WWE is officially done. Had a lot of fun and met some great people. Really and truly blown away by the acceptance from the WWE fans! You folks make it work every week and your enthusiasm was amazing!

That’s not all Smith has had to say today about his WWE departure, as the 45-year-old appeared on SiriusXM’s ‘Unlocking the Cage’ show to revealed how he learned that he’d been let go, via POST Wrestling.

Oh. I’m not calling the match on Saturday. Oh, I’m probably fired. In about two seconds, my brain went, that’s so — okay… and I was like, all right. So I knew basically the whole show on Monday night that I wasn’t coming back so when I got the call Tuesday, I was not particularly surprised.

As you can see above, Smith said that he learned he’d been fired by WWE on Tuesday, but actually realised it was going to happen the day prior after an accidential hint from Triple H.

‘The Game’ hinted to Smith, who was called “fantastic” after his Raw debut in 2021, that he wouldn’t be commentating at Extreme Rules, which led the announcer to believe that he was going to be fired.

What changes has Triple H made to the WWE announce teams?

As noted, Smith is now off commentary for Raw, being replaced by Kevin Patrick, with WWE forming new announce teams for all three shows.

Below are the line-ups for commentary on Raw, SmackDown and NXT, with Triple H making changes to the announce teams for all three brands, as first reported by Variety.

  • Raw – Kevin Patrick & Corey Graves
  • SmackDown – Michael Cole & Wade Barrett
  • NXT – Vic Joseph & Booker T
  • Premium Live Events – Michael Cole & Corey Graves
