West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Bruce has ‘been under threat’ for a couple of weeks due to his side’s poor results, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 61-year-old tactician has overseen an extremely disappointing start to the campaign at the Hawthorns, and his tenure could be drawing to a close imminently.

What is the latest news involving Bruce?

At this moment in time, West Brom are sitting inside the Championship relegation zone after picking up just a single victory in their opening 12 league games.

Bruce stated that ‘change is for other people to decide’ following a 3-2 defeat at home to Swansea City last weekend, and the Baggies’ narrow loss at Preston North End on Thursday evening may force the club’s hierarchy into a decision.

"Change is for other people to decide. All I can do is try and draw on my experience. I've had tough times before," he told BBC WM Sport.

"I've been here many times. You have to draw on a bit of experience and a bit of resilience and if you're going to do the job, you have to have a bit of that.”

Throughout his career, Bruce has shown his ability at this level having twice won promotion to the Premier League with both Birmingham City and Hull City, but time is running out to turn things around at West Brom.

What has Jones said about Bruce?

Jones believes that Bruce’s position has been under consideration for a significant period of time now and that their current standings in the Championship table is ‘just unacceptable’.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “He's been under threat for at least a couple of weeks now, as I understand it.

“And you can understand why that would be the case because being in the bottom three now is just unacceptable.”

Can Bruce turn things around?

If Bruce is given another opportunity to showcase his credentials, then he will surely need to see his team pick up all three points when they host Luton Town over the weekend.

The Hatters have made a solid start to 2022/23, though, and are currently just three places and one point outside the play-offs.

Fixtures against Reading, Bristol City, Millwall and Sheffield United are to come before the end of October, offering little rest bite for Bruce and his struggling charges.

A switch at the West Brom helm seems almost inevitable, therefore, yet Bruce will surely be hoping he gets one last shot at redemption.
