Everton supporters will be 'pleased' if Salomon Rondon seals his Goodison Park exit in January, according to journalist Paul Brown.

While Toffees boss Frank Lampard was allowed to spend more than £70million during the summer transfer window, Rondon has been linked with a move away.

What's the latest news involving Rondon?

According to the Liverpool Echo, Rondon has been the subject of interest from United Arab Emirates side Sharjah.

The report suggests the 91-cap Venezuela international worked his way onto the Pro League outfit's radar as they looked to bolster their attack ahead of the October 4 deadline, but a move failed to come to fruition.

Securing a switch to Sharjah would have seen Rondon follow a similar path to Allan, who left Everton to join Al Wahda last month.

It is understood that the Toffees are open to allowing the 33-year-old to move onto pastures new, preferably during the January transfer window, and they have received offers from clubs in Qatar.

Rondon's £43,000-per-week contract is due to expire next summer, but Everton hold an option to extend the agreement by 12 months.

What has Paul Brown said about Rondon?

Brown believes the Everton fanbase would welcome Rondon moving onto a fresh challenge as he has failed to rediscover his best form.

The journalist feels the former Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion frontman is not good enough to cut it in the Premier League anymore and, as a result, a move away should be in the offing.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: "I think Everton fans would be only too pleased to see the back of him because he's just not a reliable goalscorer anymore.

"Unfortunately, he is not fit for purpose in the Premier League. I think those days are gone, so it would make sense for all parties to say goodbye."

Should Everton sell Rondon in January?

Due to Rondon's current contract situation, along with the fact he has only scored three goals in Everton colours, it would make sense to find a buyer when the transfer window reopens for business at the turn of the year.

The South American joined the Toffees last year, when Rafa Benitez was still at the helm, but he has failed to make himself a focal point of the attack.

Lampard, who was appointed as Benitez's successor in January, has only handed Rondon three starts and the arrival of Neal Maupay has sent him further down the pecking order.
