Ryan Garcia is reportedly in talks to fight Gervonta Davis before the end of the year.

According to Alan Dawson of Insider, representatives of both have held 'positive' discussions about a possible bout in December.

The report adds there is interest from both camps but a deal still remains some way off at the time of writing.

However it seems that things are heading in the right direction with one source quoted as saying the fight is "fairly close."

It is understood that any potential deal will also include a rematch clause which means fans will get the chance to see them fight twice.

Golden Boy president Eric Gomez insisted that both sides are "working towards" getting a deal over the line.

"It's a great fight stylistically because you have a little Mike Tyson in Gervonta, a shorter and stockier fighter with the one-punch knockouts, against the flash in Ryan with his speed and his height," he told Insider.

"We need to get back to the old days when Sugar Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns fought in their 20s, not in their late 30s. This fight needs to happen now otherwise it's going to be too late. I want to see the best fight the best, and we're going to learn that if Ryan and Gervonta fight

"Right now, it's great for boxing, and it's great for the fighters. It doesn't hurt either one if they lose, as they're young enough to improve and get better. I love the match-up. I think it would be a 50-50 fight."

What has Ryan Garcia said about Gervonta Davis?

Garcia recently revealed that he got in an altercation with Davis before the pair were separated by security after bumping into each other at a nightclub.

“I actually did see Tank in the club,” he said per The Mirror. "He's a tough guy.

"He was very low-key, in his hoodie. I went up to his table and we said, ‘Yo, are we gonna make this fight happen?’ And I guess he got all offended by that.

"Got all worked up and I was like, ‘Yo, what you on about, man? Ain’t no respect here? He responds with, ‘Nah, there ain’t no respect here.’

"So [I said], ‘Oh, it’s like that. OK, it’s like that.’ Then he grabbed my chain, but I wasn’t worried about [it]. There were so many security guards there. I knew he wasn’t going to take my chain or do anything, really.

"He just wanted to seem tough. So I said ‘It’s like that, huh?’ And then he responded again, ‘Yeah, it’s like that.’

"Then he had to let go and I said, ‘You know what’ — I said something to him. He knows what I said. Not gonna repeat it on Live, but just know, the fight, that’s where it really happens. Outside the ring you can act tough all you want. Inside the ring it all changes.”
