Need for Speed: New trailer hints that franchise could be headed in very different direction

New Need for Speed game drops trailer

Need for Speed. Three words that defined an entire era.

Three words that defined most of our childhoods. Three words that perhaps meant everything at one point in time.

Now, as we brace for Need for Speed Unbound, expect the buzz to be right back, especially with the new trailer promising an entirely different feel to the series.

While new trailers are not a surprise, Need for Speed Unbound surely is.

Is Need for Speed heading in a new direction?

Everything from the characters to the the setups is nothing like anything seen previously. In a nutshell, it is very different and it is brilliant.

For the record, Unbound is being developed by Criterion Games, who, as those in the know would recall, were also responsible for two of the most legendary Need for Speed games – Hot Pursuit, Most Wanted and the Burnout Series being among those they have worked on.

At the risk of stating the obvious but if the upcoming game is anything like those mentioned above, then the gaming enthusiasts are set to have their Christmas present early.

When does the new Need for Speed come out?

That reminds us, the game’s release is well before Christmas, too.

The game will be exclusively released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on December 2, which means there will be plenty of family dinners ruined during the most wonderful time of the year.

Here’s what the official description of the game says:

“Race against time, outsmart the cops, and take on weekly qualifiers to reach The Grand, Lakeshore’s ultimate street racing challenge.

Pack your garage with precision-tuned, custom rides and light up the streets with your style, exclusive fits, and a vibrant global soundtrack that bumps in every corner of the world.”

Well, well, well. When mere words have us salivating over the prospect of playing the game, imagine what it will be like when it is actually released.
